This page is a working draft. The final policy will be reviewed by counsel before launch.
What this policy covers
Bold Bands (“Bold,” “we,” “us”) connects people in person through NFC-enabled gear. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account info. A phone number or email address you use to sign up. Your name, date of birth, location (city, state, zip), and any optional profile details (bio, photo, gender, “Bold Traits,” prompts) you add.
- Band activity. Each NFC band has a unique identifier; we record scans for safety and analytics. We never share who scanned your band with anyone else.
- Sparks. When someone sends you a Spark, we store the message + the contact info they chose to share. You decide whether to reply.
- Device info. Standard web logs (IP address, browser, OS) used for security and abuse prevention.
- Safety logs. When a Spark is silently discarded for safety reasons (cooldown, blocked sender, or incognito mode), we keep a copy of the attempted Spark in a private log. These logs are accessible only to Bold administrators, are never shown to the recipient or anyone else, and are deleted after our standard retention window.
How we use your information
- To make the core product work — showing your Bold Bio to people who scan your band, delivering Sparks, syncing the moderation queue, etc.
- To verify identity (one-time codes by SMS or email).
- To prevent abuse and keep the community safe.
- To send essential service messages (Spark notifications, account changes). We don't send marketing emails without your explicit opt-in.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your personal information to third parties.
- We don't reveal who scanned your band to other members.
- We don't share your phone number or email with someone who Sparks you. You decide whether and how to reach back.
- We don't show safety logs to recipients or surface them in the app. They exist only for administrator review of abuse patterns.
Who can see what
- Your Bold Bio is visible only to someone who has physically scanned your band. Cookies are scoped to a single band and expire on a configurable schedule.
- Bold Statements and Bold Questions on your Bio are visible to anyone who scans the band. Don't put anything on them you wouldn't want a stranger to read.
- Incognito mode turns your Bio off for everyone except you. Incognito is free and never gated.
Your choices
- Edit or delete profile fields anytime from your profile editor.
- Pause notifications from Settings.
- Block specific senders from your dashboard or settings.
- Delete your account anytime from Settings → Delete Account. We verify it's you (code to your phone and/or email), then permanently remove your profile, sign-in, and most of your data.
- Deleted-account data (profile snapshot, identifiers, and received Sparks) is retained for abuse-prevention and audit purposes after deletion. A scheduled purge job removes those records once a configurable retention period elapses. While the retention period is set to indefinite, these records persist; we will update this page when we set a fixed retention window.
